Who Are the Real Best Political Bloggers?
For those of you who are joining us late in the game, I started my own blogger awards in response to the Washington Post's ridiculous "Best Political Bloggers" contest. As the results clearly prove, the WaPo contest was ... bullshit.
Let me make a confession. At first, I wasn't really planning on having a contest; I was just making an editorial comment. But, because of overwhelming reader interest, I was forced by the marketplace to hold a real contest after all.
After nominations were submitted by the general public, a carefully chosen 3-person team of judges was tasked to make the final selections (more about the judges later).
Okay. Without further ado, here are their selections:
Court Jester
Winner: Happy Furry Puppy Time with Norbizness
In my opinion, this is one of the most under-rated blogs in all of blogdom. Norbizness displays a wit and wisdom on a daily basis that few bloggers achieve once a month.
Progressive Male Bloggers Who've Learned Their Lesson and (Hopefully) Won't Mention the Female Blogger Thing Again
Winner: Matthew Yglesias
I doubt that Matt reads this blog or takes any notice that he has won this award. Even so, he's the jury's choice.
Best Political Blog Most of Blogdom Hasn't Heard Of
Winner: Alternative Hippopotamus
Although Kim and I live less than 3-4 blocks from each other, we've never met and don't know each other that well. Kim is constantly funny, interesting and spot-on in his analysis of current events.
Most Polite Political Blogger
Winner:Echidne of the Snakes
Honorable Mention: Republic of T
Not only polite, but always erudite, Echnide is among the most clever debaters in all of the blogosphere.
Least Polite Political Blogger
Winner: Bottle of Blog
Honorable Mention: Mouse Words
Ricky's BoB is hilarious. And his headlines are tops!
Best I-Don't-Know-What-The-Fuck-You're-Talking-About-Half-The-Time-But-You-Seem-Like-You're-An-Expert Blog
Winner: Juan Cole
Honorable Mention: Respectful of Otters
If you argue with this choice, we're going to have you committed.
Best Group Blog
Winner: Obsidian Wings
Katherine's posts alone on the nasty shit going on with the Patriot Act should get OW several awards.
Wingers We Love
Winner: A Small Victory
Okay, before you get started ... I know most of you don't like michele. While I disagree with many of her political positions and I think that most of her commenters are pinheads, you got to admit that's she's an interesting blogger to watch. And, she's the highest ranking woman in TTLB.
Well, that's all for now. Winners can post the "winner" icon on their blog if they'd like to. Look for info regarding the judges tomorrow.
I'd like to thank all the people who made this possible, but then I'd have to give back the award.

I have no idea how this happened, or who comprises the shadowy, drunken Star Chamber that arrived at my appointment, but I will celebrate by continuing to teach your grandmother to suck eggs with extreme prejudice.

First of all, thanks, I feel very honored.
Secondly, in honor of Howard Dean's contribution to Election 2004, which I would argue changed pretty much everything: "Yeaaaaaargh!"
Thirdly, if that's a word, let's win this thing.

Damn it, I lost again. I want a recount. Why are we letting judges decide such important things?
xoxoxo,
ntodd
PS--Congrats to the winners. Please be uniters, not dividers.

Hey! I want a recount! I wasn't even mentioned. Not once. Not even an honorable mention.
Damn, guess that makes me the Ralph Nader of Blogdom.

Screw that, man! I have a mandate! Now the entire internet shall be impolite! You fuckers!
See what I mean?

Roxanne,
Someone's hacked your blog. They've removed Scrutiny Hooligans and its accompanying category of distinction: "Smug As They Oughta Be".

Best Therapist and Teacher Turned Blogger Blog: Scrutiny Hooligans
The Hooligans also get an honorable mention for Most Likely To Flog Their Blog
