Friday Random Ten - Matthew Yglesias Did Not Invent This Meme Edition
Yeah! Somewhere in Europe, it just turned Friday.
The rumors you've heard are true. This is the last Friday Random Ten you'll get from Rox Populi. So, without further ado ...
- Fire up your IPOD, MP3 or other digital music player
- Set to random or shuffle
- List the first ten songs
Here are mine:
- Love My Way - Psychedelic Furs
- Roundabout - Yes
- Firebird - The Paladins
- Warboys - Ghost of an American Airman
- Tougher Than It Is - Cake
- Mr. Brightside - The Killers
- Brandy - Looking Glass
- Laid - James
- Spiderwebs - No Doubt
- How You Remind Me - Nickleback
Now, it's your turn. Either in comments below or at your own blog.
The FRT torch is now passed to Lauren.
A moment of silence before I weep with disappointment, then quickly recover to feel honored for being allowed to carry the torch of banality and uncoolness. Sigh.
1. Bratmobile - Make Me Miss America
2. Slick Rick - Teenage Love
3. Reverend Horton Heat - It Hurts Your Daddy Bad
4. Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
5. Nina Simone - Central Park Blues
6. The Kinks - Til the End of the Day
7. Johnny Cash - Sixteen Tons
8. Motorhead - Ace of Spades
9. L7 - Slide
10. B-52s - Roam

Yup, it's been Friday for almost an hour now. Have you seen Pandagon's Ezra Klein posting it without crediting anyone? Anyway, here goes:
1. "London-Paris" ロンドン–パリ - Pizzicato Five ピチカ―ト・ファイヴ (that really wasn't planned, but let it be a tribute to Tōkyōxperienced Roxanne.)
2. "Graines d'étoiles" - Émilie Simon
3. "Organ Donor" - DJ Shadow
4. "The Mission" - Ennio Morricone
5. "Time Changes Everything" - Johnny Cash
6. "Yumeji's Theme" (Extended version) - Umebayashi Shigeru 梅林茂 (from the In The Mood For Love original soundtrack)
7. "POW" - The Beastie Boys
8. "Yingzi" 影子 - Wang Fei 王菲
9. "Chanson d'amour special" - Roudoudou (feat. Jenny De Vivo)
10. "Rudie Can't Fail" - The Clash.

Oh, Jimmy! Can't you find any better J-Pop than that?
Posted by: Roxanne | 20 January 2005 at 19:39
*sob*
I need to get used to this feeling. It's the feeling I get when friends get in the car and I'm playing The Clash. Yes, it's fun. But it's just too mainstream now.
1) "God Save the Queen"--Motorhead
2) "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory"--Ronnie Spector
3) "Brick House"--The Commodores
4) "We're Desperate"--X
5) "Voyager"--Daft Punk
6) "No Need to Cry"--Neko Case
7) "Better Be Women"--The Dwarves
8) "Anarchy Camp"--NOFX
9) "Gimme Gimme Gimme"--Black Flag
10) "Strange Town"--The Jam
Well, at least The Jam was on it.
It's like when you break up with someone and turn on the radio. Every song no is imbued with so much meaning. Except "Brick House". That song is impossible to make much out of.

Oh, Jimmy! Can't you find any better J-Pop than that?
No, that's all I have. I bought that 5-songs EP in Taiwan, mosly because it reminded me of a friend who likes them Pizzicato Five.
I didn't develop a taste for J-pop while in Formosa, quite in the contrary (for someone whose experience was limited to China Mainland back then, being exposed to an insane ammount of it all the time didn't help).
"Mando-pop" and "Canto-pop" (or punk and rap, for that matter) all you want (too bad I can't use my good ol' tapes for the FRT), but J-pop? I guess I have to learn more than the written language (I can only read Sinology-related material, and the text has to contain more kanji than kana) or simply go to Japan (which I plan to do after the doctorate).
