Jesus H. Christ
Did my grandfather spend three years of his life kicking Hitler's ass and survive the Great Depression so that Europe would have to send us gas and Sri Lanka would have to send doctors to help us? Godfuckingdamn.

At least we're finally have the humility to accept the help.

No offense, but yes.
That's *exactly* what your father fought for -- and mine fought for: simple human decency.
Let's talk about what really is important: those who don't understand what is and has faced us and how much people are suffering.

Uh, yeah, what Chris and Amanda said. I know you didn't mean it this way, Rox, but this comes off like a slam on Europe and Sri Lanka for trying to lend a hand.. And yes, international cooperation in a time of crisis is exactly what your grandfather fought for.

No, not meant as a slam. It just seems so ironic.

I get what she's saying - we're supposed to be better than this. The USA is supposed to have medical personnel to help, the National Guard to protect us in emergencies, the best of everything to begin with - instead, we've been shown to be incompetent, racist, elitist, and generally clueless. We aren't a "superpower" - we're a joke. Her Grandfather fought for better than this for us, and TPTB let him, and us, down.

Morgaine--we ARE a joke, unfortunately. I can sympathize Roxanne. The ideals of this country have been quite shattered. We have sunk pretty low. Our "leader" sits on his royal ass for four days before acting on one of the worst natural disasters in American history. WTF!?

As only one European, I can't speak for us all, but I'm fairly sure not many of us would disagree with Roxanne. My friends and family are shocked at the devastation and appalled by what we see.

Please reconsider using the innocuous term “joke” to describe the U.S. government. Collectively, the individuals who now head our nation pose a threat to both the planet and its people that is unprecedented in world history. Many of our elected officials anticipate and welcome an apocalype in our time and have the means to bring it about if God doesn't cooperate. And… that’s no joke. BTW I speak as a professional world historian.

Oops. Left the "s" out of apocalypse. Beg pardon. Should edit before posting.
