Odds on Plame, Revisited
Many of you have Fitzmas Madness. You've got your bingo cards at the ready. Your coping strategies are in place. You've got a wide-variety of adult beverages on ice.
Now that it looks as though the great Lord Vader may have committed perjury, it's entirely possible your heads will explode sometime in the next 24 hours.
Given all the excitement, I thought now would be a good time to revisit the Plame, With Odds thingie we considered last July. I'm particularly interested in this bit:
5) What will Bush do when indictments occur?
a) Fire anyone indicted as soon as possible 5:1
b) Pardon anyone indicted as soon as possible 4:1
c) Rail against extremists like "the Moveon crowd that compared me to Hitler" 3:1
d) Threaten Syria 10:1
e) Join O.J. Simpson in attempting to find "the real leakers" 100:1
f) When attempting to process complicated notions for the first time, his head may explode 200:1
g) Call for immediate reform of the "broken legal system 100:1
h) argue that any indictments provide a full exoneration to him and his Administration, 20:1
i) DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND! THERE'S A WAR ON TERROR! THE CRIMINAL SYSTEM MUST STOP! 10:1
History tells us that it'll probably be "c" ...but "d" is looking more and more like a viable bet.
It's really a variation of (i), but my money is on (j) Declare Fitzgerald an 'enemy combatant' and ship him to Gitmo.

You forgot to add "take a drink" although based on reports of his recent behavior, he may have started that already.

Looks like they have done more than just threaten Syria

j) Fire Fitzgerald 2:1
k) Have Congress pass a law eliminating judicial authority over the executive branch 5:1
l) Announce bogus terrorist threats 3:2

You forgot the big one: Announce the capture of Bin Laden (or his death at our hands).

None of the above. The answer is: They will throw Fitzgerald under the nearest bus. In fact, if I were him I'd stay far away from any form of public transportation.

m - none of the above.

BTW, it is a good time to remember the famous Washington saying - "You can indict a ham sandwich". Since no crime was committed in the first place, the only indictment possibilities, which is different from being proven guilty, is that someone tried to cover up the non-crime of bringing up Plame's name.

what will you do when everything you believe in comes crashing down around your ankles?
Posted by: eli | 26 October 2005 at 11:14
Me? I'm an independent libertarian type. My beliefs aren't even remotely in danger. There's a chance they could accuse one or more people of covering up a non-crime, but there's virtually zero chance of them accusing them of breaking a law, since the law is *extremely* clear. Plame was not "undercover" within 5 years, was not overseas, therefore, no crime. It will be very sad if they spent $2M to investigate a non-crime only to accuse someone of lying about a non-crime. In any case, I have no feelings one way or another for Rove or Libby and don't care. I just think all you people are so steeped in hatred that you're letting your minds run away with you and, even more sad, are delighting in the misfortunes of others.
You guys say Republicans are evil. Look in the mirror.
