Doing Our Part for National Security
We've spent part of our weekend replacing lightbulbs in our house. Here's why:
If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road...
CFL's retail for a great deal more than regular lightbulbs, but also last up to 10 times longer and use 66% less energy.
My utility offers discount coupons to use for purchasing the bulbs.

I'm all for energy efficient light bulbs, but that claim sounds a little fishy to me.

I love my energy efficient bulbs. I have them in every lamp I can use them but I haven't seen any drop in my energy bill. I never see a drop in any of my utility bills no matter how many new appliances I get that are supposed to save resources.

gee i'll have to get some

Uh Robin- you only see the drop in energy bills if you do not keep adding new energy using products. Simply replacing the old ones will see a drop, if and only if you use them the same way that you used the old. I have changed almost all of my lights to the new bulbs and the best energy savings is from climbing up and down ladders changing bulbs.

are they the ones that take a while to come all the way on? i'm all for energy saver bulbs, but all the ones i've tried start really dim and then lazily make it to full luminescence.

Love CFLs - just wrote a post April 6th (with graphs!) about our household energy usage compared to the neighborhood - come on over + check it out - some good tips, I think. I'm also in love with LEDs - switched over to LED christmas lights this year - really freaking bright for very few watts.

Some body call the WhiteHouse, they need to replace some of the bulbs up there and save more than energy...

You're such a good citizen.
But did you buy those bulbs at Home Depot? :)

Lowes.

I adore those light bulbies, our co-op power company gives them away free. Also I put in a programable thermostat two years ago and between the two of these things my electric bill went down twenty dollars a month. Yahoo
I'm on one of those budget payment jobbers where I pay the same amount twelve months of the year.
