ALL NSA Whistle-Blower's Evidence Now on Wired
Lovely, this bit:
In 2003 AT&T built "secret rooms" hidden deep in the bowels of its central offices in various cities, housing computer gear for a government spy operation which taps into the company's popular WorldNet service and the entire internet. These installations enable the government to look at every individual message on the internet and analyze exactly what people are doing. Documents showing the hardwire installation in San Francisco suggest that there are similar locations being installed in numerous other cities.
So, I guess it doesn't much matter if you're an AT&T customer or not. The government's got access to your internet activity. Without cause or a warrant. But fake Libertarians will still defend the government's action here ...BECAUSE OF THE SCARY!
Hmmm. And let's imagine the relationship between this minor bugaboo and the issue of net neutrality.
Wired's got all the goods, uncut.

They are going to be reading a LOT of boring emails of mine, then. But maybe they like Battlestar Galactica too?

And every text-message you sent from the stinky-smelly N Judah, too.

[waving hello to the NSA]

I've learned how to surf the internet with one hand. The NSA should remember that.

On the bright side, there is no feasible way that AT&T, or even the NSA, can store the entire history of Internet traffic for any significant portion of time. Even WWW traffic would be impossible to store for later analysis, and I would imagine spam keeps Email traffic too large for storage also. They must be using some selective saving criteria to make this usable.
Besides, all my email and IM traffic of any importance gets encrypted, take that NSA!

I suppose it's a little late to state the obvious, but can you IMAGINE how they would have shrieked and howled if the Clinton Administration had done stuff like this? The whole UN-black-helecopter crowd would have just crapped their pants.

I like that, "BECAUSE OF THE SCARY".
If you think about it, "the scary" is the root of our problems.
Thanks, conservative America.
I wonder if they cry when they read my emotional emails. I hope so. It'd be like a drama on TV, except that it's real life!!! I sort of want to join the NSA now... :(

How much longer do we have to put up with this crap?

The NSA is doing a fine job. I love the NSA. The NSA can do no wrong. Nothing to see here, NSA.

First off, you can't track the entire Internet from one network. The Internet, as defined, is a network of networks. AT&T is certainly one of the largest networks in the world (voice and data), however, not all networks peer with AT&T directly (even in the US) and you'll find that a majority of Internet traffic doesn't even touch the AT&T network at any point along it's path. I'm not saying that what they're doing isn't very big brotherish and VERY SCARY, however, you wouldn't be able tap the entire Internet from one provider's backbone.

Forgive my ignorance, but just exactly who are the "fake Libertarians"?
Posted by: elberto | 22 May 2006 at 21:56
Well that explains that damn mystery troll who follows me around regardless of the moniker I use, the one who always spells “democratic asshole” democraptic a**h*le.
Fake libertarians = Anyone who has trouble imagining any threats to America that don’t explode or speak Arabic, while claiming to be a Libertarian. But wait a minute, isn’t the number one reason for having a government (protecting the group from all internal and external threats) also the number one unresolved issue for Libertarians? God, now I’m confused...

TIP: If you don't want them to read your email, place the word 'Viagra' or 'cialis' somewhere on the page.
