A Lesson for Americans
Imagine a world where public debate of serious issues included the uncensored input of a nation's citizens. Imagine a world where the opposition party called the party in power on their bullshit. Imagine these exchanges taking place on a public television news program for all the citizens to see.
This is what democracy looks like.
[If you're pressed for time, skip to minute 40-ish and watch 'til the end.]

Bad news for democracy here. A Fox-like news channel is starting up, except it won't be on TV, as such partisanship wouldn't be allowed here. It will be available on the internet. It's called 18 Doughty Street. (I think that's the name they said; I'm going to check on this.)

The dynamic that Straw is so desperate to claim existed - that the UK had some kind of positive influence over the US in the run-up to war - was evinced when the Downing St. Memos came out last year. I wrote about it < a href="http://casadelogo.typepad.com/factesque/2005/06/aside_from_the_.html">here.

An off topic short course in British culture:
On first acquaintance:
“Forgive me for if I’m being too bold with my opinions. I know that many others are better informed than I.”
Later, at the pub:
“BOLLOCKS! SACK THE BLEEDIN TOSSER NOW!”
