Thursday Gingerbread House Blogging

P1010002_1

I know it's not really in the same league as these, but it IS the first time I ever made one. The construction pattern is my own design a la graph paper and I used this recipe for the gingerbread. The windows are made from oven-melted butterscotch hard-candies. I know it doesn't look like much, but please tell me it doesn't completely suck.

Of course it doesn't suck. I'm now motivated to try my hand at ye olde gingerbread house - the 4 year old will love it. How long did it take?

I made mine in fits and starts.

Make the dough 30 minutes
Roll and Cut pieces 1 hour
decorate 1 hours

With a broken garage door, squirrels in the attic, a scum-filled swimming pool, a rotting door frame, and other decay too numerous to mention, my house is the one that sucks. Can I move into yours?

But you have a swimming pool!

Looks good enough to eat...

Aw, you don't want to eat that. The gingerbread would break your teeth if you tried it.

Is that a crescent over the door?

Malkin might see a crescent, but it's really just an awning with snow melting off of it.

I think it looks homey and warm and I'd love to have one too!

Your house is utterly charming.

Looks better than mine...

Malkin schmalkin. There are crosses in all the windows. ;->

Looks fantastic. I do really like the windows.

So does not suck.

It actually looks a little like the houses in the backgrounds of Pepe Le Pew cartoons, with all the jaunty angles in the windows outlines.
