The Clinton Campaign's Racist Tactics

I'm the first to admit that I'm one of the last great cynics, especially when it comes to the current presidential race. I think most surrogates and high-profile supporters of both campaigns say what they say when they say it with an intended outcome.

In that context, it's hard to imagine that Geraldine Ferraro's recent statements are not intended to do exactly what Jeff Fecke gets at here.

That hasn't been my experience at all while working on a big campaign. The surrogates are often more trouble than you can imagine - they don't like the way you're running things, and often decide they'll "fix" it by shooting off their mouths.

And they're not paid staffers, so you can't really stop them.

I think Ferraro was tactless and impulsive. I don't believe for one minute she was trying to be racist. Go look at the ABC News video of her interview with Diane Sawyer this morning, it's on the front page:

Of course she wasn't trying to be racist; she was just casually being racist.

I think she was being an asshole, which she's kind of prone to doing.

I also think that both candidates have supporters with issues, and that the way the narrative has developed her supporters with issues are a sign of a dirty campaign on her part and his being called on his supporters with issues is a dirty trick on her part.

His campaign manager ran both her campaigns. If she's as dirty as all that, his campaign didn't hire for transcendence.
